Berlin

Über LP brauche ich wohl nichts zu schreiben. Welcher Reiseführer ist besser für Individualtouristen (Backpacker) geeignet. Ausser bei einigen wenigen Ländern (Südkorea-Moon Handbook und Philippinen-Jens Peters) habe ich immer zum LP gegriffen. Fazit: Kauftipp mit Verbesserungspotenzial bei den Stadtplänen und allgemeinen Infos.

Ich habe diesen Lonely Planet für einen Berlin Trip im sommer gekauft, und kann ihn nur Empfehlen.

Die große Fülle an Information macht Lust ganz viel von der Stadt anzugucken, auch wenn man gar nicht die Zeit hat. Die kurzen und treffenden Beschreibungen der Sehenswürdigkeiten und besonders die interessanten Hintergrundinformationen machen Lust auf die Stadt. Besonders Szene-mäßig wird viel geboten und für jeden Geschmack ist etwas dabei.

Zwar ist das Kartensystem im Buch zunächst schwer zu durchschauen, aber wenn man sich dran gewöhnt hat gibt es nichts einfacheres mehr.

Ich kann diesen Reiseführer jedem empfehlen, jedoch sollte man schon 2-3 Tage vorher mal reingeschaut haben, wenn man in Berlin das erste mal reinschaut kann es sein, dass einen die Fülle an Informationen leicht umhaut ;)

I bought this guide for a 3-day excursion to Berlin. I have been using DK guides so far, but the reputation of Lonely Planet made me trust this one for the specific trip. Unfortunately, it helped us only minimally, and we ended up advising with it only sporadically. The main problem was the huge amount of information; if you'd spend 2 weeks there, it might be useful. But not for 3 days. Additionally, I found that the information was not organized in a way that would help the reader find easily what they need. I'm not sure what would be the best way to do that, I can only say that, again, I found DK guides to be much better in that regard. Finally, I'm not too sure about the quality of information included in this specific guide. I trusted it for a restaurant and turned out to be a very bad choice (food-wise). And, I was looking for the famous Kaiser William memorial church, which I had heard about before, and couldn't find any reference to it whatsoever -- this is a major monument of Berlin.

Two stars only for the amount of information contained.

Das Format dieses Buches ist schon sein erster Vorteil. Es passt in jede Tasche, auch die der Hose.
Für einen kurzen Trip nach Berlin ist es ideal die wichtigsten Attraktionen sind genauso beschrieben wie gute Tipps fürs Essen und Trinken.
Die Gliederung in Stadtteile erweist sich als praktisch. Die beiliegende Karte ist übersichtlich.
Ich kann den Kauf nur empfehlen.
Da ich nichts auszusetzen hatte vergebe ich 5 Sterne.

On a recent trip to Berlin this book never left my side. It's small enough to fit into a handbag or fanny pack, and it will guide you through Berlin just as well as any tour guide.

Lonely Planet Berlin has more information than you'll probably need and it's more up-to-date than any of the other guidebooks out there. I've read Frommer's and Fodor's and they don't compare to Lonely Planet. I also prefer this book to the Michelin Guide books. If you don't like to read guide books and prefer to show up and see-what-happens, than you'll want to buy this book for the detailed maps in the back. There are eight different maps covering different sections of Berlin. Each map gives you the exact locations of numerous Places to Stay, Places to Eat, Places to Drink and Other: museums, points of history/ interest, police stations, post offices, etc. There is also a detailed map of Berlin's rail lines.

The author, Andrea Schulte-Peevers, wrote the 1998 edition with her husband David Peevers and they certainly are the experts of where-to-go and what-to-do in Berlin. Trust me, this book is a must for anyone wanting to visit this amazing city!
